Samsung investigates claims of ‘exploding’ Galaxy SIII handset

Customer claims handset emitted white flame and sparks while in car mount 

Samsung is investigating reports that a Galaxy SIII exploded in a customers car, following reports on a number of blogs and news websites.

The Irish SIII owner claimed on online forum boards.ie that his new S3 was in an unbranded car mount when a white flame, spark and bang came out of the phone. The user, known only as dillo2k10 then posted images of the burnt out phone on the forum, adding that he was satisfied now Samsung had replaced the phone.

Samsung confirmed to Mobile News it is investigating the issue and a spokesman added: “Once the investigation is complete, we will be able to provide further details on the situation. We are committed to providing our customers with the safest products possible and are looking at this seriously.”
