RIM reportedly mulling selling handset business

Options being looked at in strategic review include sale of handset business to firms including Facebook and Amazon, according to Sunday Times report

Research In Motion is reportedly considering selling its handset business, with Facebook and Amazon considered potential buyers.

A report in the Sunday Times quotes unnamed sources who say one of the options being considered is to sell of RIM’s devices division while retaining BlackBerry Messenger and its mobile device management platform Mobile Fusion.

The option is reportedly one of those being considered by JP Morgan and RBC Capital, who were bought in last month by RIM CEO Thorsten Heins (pictured) to carry out a strategic review into ways of turning around the ailing company.

Other options on the table include keeping the business together but selling a large stake to a larger firm such as Microsoft.
