Virgin Media has launched a range mobile tariffs that it said “will set a new standard in unbeatable value which will challenge the rest of the industry to keep up.”

The ‘Starter’ tariff is available from £18 a month and comes with 200 minutes, 500 texts and 500MB of data, whereas the ‘Essential’ tariff begins from £23 a month and offers 600 minutes, unlimited texts and 1GB of data.

Both the ‘Premiere’ and ‘Premiere 08’ tariffs start from £26 and £33 a month respectively and come with 2,500 minutes and unlimited texts, data and calls to UK landlines. The latter of the two plans includes 500 minutes to 0800, 0845, 0870 and 0808 numbers per month.

All plans cost £5 a month less for existing Virgin Media customers, who also receive unlimited calls and texts to other Virgin customers. Both new and existing customers also receive free insurance with 24 hour handset replacement for the length of the contract.

The Starter, Essential and Premi9er plans are also available as a one month rolling SIM-only option, available from £10, £15 and £25 a month respectively.

The Starter tariff includes 250 minutes, 2,500 texts and 500MB of data, Essential comes with 600 minutes, 2,500 texts and 500MB of data, and Premiere offers 2,500 minutes, 2,500 texts, 1GB of data and 1,500 minutes to UK landlines.

Current Virgin Media customers will receive the same amount of monthly minutes, as well as unlimited texts, as well as calls and texts to other Virgin customers. Existing customers will receive 1GB of data on the Starter and Essential plans, with the Premiere tariff offering unlimited data.

The Premiere 08 plan is only available to existing customers on SIM-only, and comes with 2,500 minutes, unlimited texts, data, calls to UK landlines and calls and texts to other Virgin customers. Like the contract option, customers also receive 500 minutes of calls per month to 0800, 0845, 0870 and 0808 numbers.

Virgin Media director of mobile Jamie Heywood (pictured) said: “When we launched over ten years ago as the worlds first mobile company of its type, we revolutionised the market, and this is another such landmark.

“As people look for the best value, we’re rewarding loyalty with some amazing tariffs with unlimited offerings that our customers can enjoy without worrying about hidden extras, as well as helping to combat bill shock.”
