ZTE launches sub-£50 Android prepay phone on Virgin

Kis handset available on MVNO for £49.99 with £10 top up and comes with free monthly data allowance

Virgin has announced the launch of its first prepay Android handset for under £50, the ZTE Kis, which is initially available exclusively with the MVNO.

The handset comes with a 2GB memory card, 3.2 megapixel camera, 800Mhz processor and runs Android Gingerbread. Virgin is also currently adding 1GB of free data per month for new pre-pay smartphone customers for their first year.

Available for £49.99, Kis is the second handset the manufacturer has released with Virgin following last year’s Tania Windows Phone release.

ZTE director of mobile device operations Wu Sa said: “The launch of the ZTE Kis is a further demonstration of our commitment to building the ZTE brand in Europe and the UK across a number of price points and operating systems, which will continue with new devices throughout the remainder of 2012 and in 2013. It is also an example of our commitment to providing our customers with quality devices at affordable prices under the vibrant ZTE brand proposition.”

“With the Kis, ZTE has designed a handset that meets customer requirements for a rich Android experience at a very affordable price for PAYG customers,” added Virgin Media director of mobile Jamie Heywood.
