Distributor to supply P1 and Vision on a trial basis to increase focus in pushing the handsets into specific channels and markets
Brightstar Europe has been given exclusive distribution rights for the Huawei Ascend P1 and Vision handsets on a trial basis, Mobile News understands.
The addition of Brightstar brings the number of official UK Huawei distributors to three, with Data Select and 20:20 Mobile already on board.
Huawei is said to have added Brightstar as part of its wider strategy to penetrate new markets, as the Chinese manufacturer looks to increase its brand exposure.
However, Mobile News understands Brightstar will not have access to Huawei’s entire portfolio, such as the Honour handset, to avoid a potential price war with its other distributors.
The decision to give Brightstar exclusivity on the Ascend P1 (pictured left) and Vision (pictured right) was designed to allow for increased focus in pushing the handsets into specific channels and markets.
The trial will begin officially on August 1, although Brightstar is understood to have received stock already.
Exclusivity on the P1 and Vision handsets will remain until the end of the year. The length of the trial is unknown.
It is understood both 20:20 Mobile and Data Select have been made aware of Brightstar’s addition and the exclusivity on both products.
Huawei and Brightstar both declined to comment on the story.
In addition, Huawei will launch a marketing campaign costing in excess of £1 million at the end of July and into August to promote the P1 handset launch.
The campaign, the firm’s first ever in the UK, will feature in various print and digital media.
A TV campaign is expected later this year.
