Orr to head up operations from September 1, replacing Stephen Bates who moves to new regional MD for Europe role
Research In Motion (RIM) has appointed Rob Orr as its new UK and Ireland managing director. He replaces Stephen Bates from September 1, who will take on the newly created role of regional managing director for Europe.
Orr (pictured) has been the handset manufacturer’s vice president of product management for EMEA for the past six years. Prior to this he was director of carrier product management for three years.
Before joining RIM, he was head of product convergence at BT for almost three years, and product manager for corporate applications at Vodafone UK for a year.
Bates will now be responsible for RIM’s market responsiveness, customer engagement and maximising employee focus across the European organisation.
RIM said Bates’ promotion is part of plans to ensure the RIM team in Europe is optimally structured to be fully focused on selling BlackBerry 7 smartphones and BlackBerry Mobile Fusion, and is prepared and ready for the launch of BlackBerry 10 in Q1 2013.
