Nokia expected to unveil first Windows Phone 8 devices

Rumours of new releases mount as joint press conference with Microsoft is announced for 3pm BST in New York

Nokia are set to hold a joint press conference with Microsoft at 3pm (BST) today (September 5) in New York to coincide with Nokia world in Helsinki, with rumours that the firms are to jointly launch the manufacturer’s first Windows Phone 8 devices.

The Windows Phone 8 platform was first announced in June with Nokia, HTC, Samsung and Huawei being the first firms using the new platform. However it was also announced that phones using older versions of Windows Phone wouldn’t be able to upgrade fully, with customers being offered Windows Phone 7.8 instead – containing some new features but not the fully updated package. New Lumia owners were critical of the move with many claiming their devices would soon be out of date.

Analysts expect Nokia and Microsoft to unveil the first wave of Nokia Windows Phone 8 Lumias at this afternoon’s press conference.
