Huawei appoints Desborough as account sales director

Industry veteran joins to take charge of manufacturer’s accounts with Three and Phones 4U

Huawei has appointed former Nokia account manager David Desborough as its new UK  sales director.

Desborough, who has more than 22 years’ experience in the mobile industry following stints at Nokia and Palm, will be responsible for the manufacturer’s accounts with Three and Phones 4U.

Huawei Device UK and Ireland executive vice president Mark Mitchinson said: “I have known David for many years and I’m delighted to have him recognise and further exploit genuine growth opportunities for Huawei.

“David has phenomenal experience of the UK mobile market, both from a manufacturer and an operator perspective.”

Huawei last week unveiled two new smartphone handsets and a tablet device at this year’s IFA event in Berlin.

The Ascend G330 features a dual-core processor and a four-inch screen and runs off Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich.

The G600 includes a 4.5-inch screen display, a dual-core processor, Android 4.0, an eight-megapixel camera and surround sound.

The MediaPad 7 Lite, a follow-up to the original MediaPad launched last year, includes Android 4.0, a seven-inch HD display, a 1.2 GHz processor, Wi-Fi and 3G and it weighs 370g – 20g less than the original.

All devices will be released into the UK market by Q4.

Mitchinson said: “We are building a comprehensive portfolio of devices in the UK and Ireland for smartphones across all tiers.”
