EE distributor says it has taken six times the amount of new account enquiries it would normally receive
Mainline Digital Communications has been ‘inundated’ with enquiries from dealers regarding EE’s new 4G network and the iPhone 5 initially only available on 4G only from EE in the UK.
EE announced plans on Tuesday to roll out its 4G network to 16 major UK cities before the end of the year, whilst on Wednesday Apple unveiled its latest smartphone, the iPhone 5.
Mainline managing director Andrew Boden (pictured) said: “The announcements made over the last few days by EE and Apple have put clear water between the network and the rest of the market. I’m not sure why other operators haven’t followed EE’s lead by trying to launch 4G on their existing spectrum. It seems a major opportunity has been missed.
“Certainly, our dealers have been quick to recognise the tremendous sales opportunities created by these major industry developments and are keen to make sure they are able to take maximum advantage of them.
“We have been inundated with calls from our current dealers this week and have taken around six times the number of new account requests we would normally expect to receive. “Our task – as always – is to ensure that all our dealers are well placed to make the most of every serious commercial opportunity that comes our way.”
