17 iPhone 5 accessories sold every minute at Carphone Warehouse during launch weekend
Carphone Warehouse claims it sold 17 iPhone 5 accessories every minute during in the first weekend the device went on sale.
The claim comes from Carphone Warehouse CEO Graham Stapleton who described the opening weekend as its biggest ever for accessory sales.
Stapleton said the most popular accessories sold were screen protectors and protective cases.
The iPhone 5 accessory market, excluding those sold through Apple retail stores, is estimated to be worth around £100 million in the UK.
Stapleton said: “The iPhone 5 has given Carphone Warehouse the biggest single launch we’ve seen for accessories. We anticipated that demand would be high.
“This rush on accessories, particularly cases and protectors, proves the value customers are placing on their new phones; wanting to ensure that they stay in pristine condition for as long as possible. It’s interesting to see how the market has evolved and these types of products, once considered added extras, are now must-haves for many people purchasing a new handset.”
