Apple donate $2.5m to Hurricane Sandy relief

As well as the $2.5 million lump sum donated by Apple, its customers have made donations through iTunes to the hurricane relief effort

Apple is donating $2.5 million (£1.6 million) to the Hurricane Sandy relief effort.

The donation is on top of the those made by iTunes customers and Apple employees.

Apple has an arrangement with the Red Cross so that 100 per cent of iTunes donations go to Hurricane Sandy relief.

In the past it has donations made via iTunes have aided disaster efforts like the Japanese tsunami and earthquake of 2011.

CEO Tim Cook said: “Apple employees and customers the world over have raised millions of dollars toward the relief effort so far.
