Apple’s App Store records 20 billion downloads in 2012


Over 500 million accounts have been created to use the service with 775,000 apps currently available

The Apple App Store received almost 20 billion downloads worldwide in the last year, taking the total number to 40 billion since its launch in 2008.

There are now over 500 million active accounts with the App Store with over 775,000 apps available for download for iPhone, iPod and iPad customers.

The manufacturer added that last month (December) was its busiest on record for the service with over two billion downloads during the month.

Apple’s senior vice president of internet software and services Eddy Cue said: “It has been an incredible year for the iOS developer community. Developers have made over seven billion dollars on the App Store, and we continue to invest in the ecosystem.”
