Stanton says that the launch of 4G and roll-out of superfast broadband will lead to a data battle, with 4G leading to the next generation of apps

2013 will mark the start of the data battle between fixed and mobile, with the roll-out of superfast broadband by the telecommunications networks and the launch of 4G from all the mobile networks. This battle to provide faster, more consistent connection speeds will see a dramatic shift in the delivery of voice, from traditional calls to VoIP, which will result in further reductions in voice profits.

With widespread availability of 4G we will also see the next generation of mobile apps, with advancements in augmented reality and NFC technology. Our lives will revolve even more around our mobile devices, allowing us to make purchases and store ticket information.

Competition within the smartphone market could also see a shift in 2013, with Windows challenging iOS and Android’s dominant market share. We have already seen an increase in demand in the Nokia Lumia range, which we predict will continue to grow with the introduction of Window’s new cloud services.
