O2 Tracks app updates chart on handsets weekly and is available on other networks for £4.99 a month

O2 has launched its own music service which allows its customers to download the Top 40 UK singles onto their handset for a weekly charge of £1.

The O2 Tracks app, currently for sale on Apple and Android handsets and coming soon on Windows Phone and BlackBerry, is available on a two month trial to its own customers and on a two week trial for subscribers of other networks.

The service is then available for £1 a week for O2 customers and for £4.99 a month for everyone else.

Customers will receive all of the tracks in the Top 40 downloaded to their handset, which will then be replaced by the new chart on a weekly basis.

O2 consumer and marketing director Sally Cowdry said: “O2 Tracks allows you to access the most popular music directly on your mobile and for better value than ever before. O2 has built a heritage with music and offering exclusive experiences. That’s why our customers can enjoy two months free. Even after this promotion, our new app means you get the entire chart for little more than the price of downloading one track.”

MusicQubed CEO Chris Gorman added: “We share O2’s vision of delivering hand-picked, low-cost music to mainstream customers, easily and with no fuss. O2 Tracks will help O2 build deeper relationships with its customers and also ensure that artists get paid equitable rate for their music.”
