Samsung’s Galaxy Note 8.0 will go on sale in the UK in Q2 of this year
Samsung launched the Galaxy Note 8.0, a mid-sized tablet, at Mobile World Congress this morning.
The 8-inch tablet, to go on sale in the UK in the second quarter of this year, comes with a stylus, or ‘S Pen’.
The manufacturer has added Flipboard, a personalized news aggregating service, and Awesome Note, cloud-based annotation software, as preloaded applications to the Galaxy Note for the first time.
It has also upgraded its instant messaging service, Chat On, which allows content to be sent in different forms including video and images.
The S Pen, embedded in the device, can be used to hover over the screen to pre-view videos and, for the first time with a Galaxy tablet, can be used to control the physical menu and back buttons.
‘Reading Mode’ adjusts screen settings to turn the tablet into an e-reader.
It has a 1.6GHz quad-core processor and runs on Android 4.1.2.
Samsung UK and Ireland vice president of IM division, Simon Stanford said: “This year, we expect tablet growth to accelerate at the same fast pace we saw last year.
“The Galaxy Note was a completely new category of device when we launched the first one back in 2011, and it’s been extremely satisfying to watch it sell so well and grow in stature as our customers’ understanding of the category has grown.”
