Samsung developing ‘connected wristwatch’

Samsung is to go head-to-head with Apple in the connected watch market

Samsung is developing a connected wristwatch which may become part of its Galaxy range.

The manufacturer’s vice president of mobile Lee Young Hee confirmed reports it was working on a ‘smartwatch’ in a Bloomberg report.

There are rumours the watch may be named the Galaxy Altius.

Hee did not confirm specifications, but Reuters has cited sources as saying it will share many features with Samsung’s smartphones.

“We’ve been preparing the watch product for so long,” Hee said.

“We are working very hard to get ready for it. We are preparing products for the future, and the watch is definitely one of them.”

The news comes after Apple revealed last month it is working with around 100 developers on a watch that will perform many of the functions of the iPhone and iPad.
