Police have appealed for information after two mobile phones with stun gun capacity were found in Twickenham
Police have issued a warning about imports of mobile phones with stun gun capacity after two devices were found last week.
A 15-year-old boy was arrested and bailed after the phones were discovered in the Twickenham Riverside area.
The devices, which are illegal to import, were purchased from an internet company in China.
Borough commander of Richmond and Twickenham police, superintendent Clive Chalk said: “Discovering a weapon such as this is thankfully an extremely rare occurrence on the Borough but I am keen to emphasise the dangers these devices bring. Even by purchasing such a weapon, you are committing an offence – one that could result in jail.
“Ignorance is not a defence. If you are found in possession of one of these devices, or found to have purchased one of these devices, you could be prosecuted.”
Anyone with information about mobile phones with stun gun capacity should contact Richmond and Twickenham police on 101 and ask to speak to their Safer Neighbourhood team.
