EE will offer 4G mobile connectivity for free in 50 taxis in London and Birmingham during a three-month trial
EE has enabled taxis in London and Birmingham with 4G connectivity.
For three months, 4G mobile internet will be offered free to those taking journeys in the 40 Hackney carriages in London and 10 in Birmingham fitted with EE’s MiFi wireless router.
Research cited by the operator found over 40 per cent of smartphone users across the two cities have been late for a meeting while stuck in traffic. One in five commuters said it would make their day less stressful if they had access to the internet while in a taxi.
EE director of brand Spencer McHugh said: “We hope this trial will demonstrate the benefits of a superior online experience as users can browse, download, catch up on emails, tweet and check Facebook literally at the speed of light.”
