EE to offer UK’s first ‘Cat4’ next generation 4G device

The Huawei E5776 mobile wifi device will be the first ‘Cat4’ enabled device in the UK

EE is to offer the UK’s first Cat4 enabled device, the Huawei E5776 mobile wifi, which will offer even faster speeds than current 4G devices on sale from the operator.

Cat4, or category 4, devices are capable of 150Mbps download speeds, compared with Cat3 handsets which tend to peak at 100Mbps.

The Huawei E5776 will be available for free on EE’s range of existing 4GEE mobile broadband plans, starting at £12.99 per month with 1GB of data. The device will also be available on a range of its business plans.

Consumers with a Huawei E5776 wifi on a 4GEE plan will get a £5 per month discount on EE superfast fibre broadband.

EE said the arrival of the device means customers can take full advantage of its double-speed 4G network, due to go live in June.

EE director of products and devices Paul Jevons said: “We’re pleased to be launching our first next generation 4G device. With this device, not only will customers get amazing Superfast 4GEE speeds today, but they’ll also benefit from an even greater experience when we double the speeds in our network, which will be rolling out this summer.”
