EE to roll-out 4G upgrade early in London tech hub


Area with high concentration of technology firms between Old Street and Stratford will get double-speed LTE in June

EE has signed a deal with the Government to provide its double speed 4G services to businesses in East London’s ‘Tech City’┬ábefore the widespread roll-out.

The deal was announced by chancellor of the exchequer George Osbourne, who added from June firms in the area would be able to access the faster 4G and also 4G Wi-Fi hotspots.

Tech City is the area between Old Street and Stratford in London where there is a high concentration of technology firms, especially start-ups. The Government supports initiatives in the area through its quango the Tech City Investment Organisation.

Earlier this month EE CEO Olaf Swantee announced the operator would be doubling speeds and capacity on its 4G network, starting with an initial roll-out to 10 cities over the summer.

The first areas to receive the enhanced service will be Birmingham, Bristol, Cardiff, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Leeds, Liverpool, London, Manchester and Sheffield.
