Former general manager of enterprise takes role as head of Telefonica Digital UK and Ireland

O2 has appointed former enterprise manager David Plumb to its UK board of directors as head of Telefonica Digital UK and Ireland.

During his two and a half year stint as general manager of O2’s enterprise team, he developed and launched O2 Unify – the operator’s UC offering – while continuing his roles as head of SME sales, which he had held since 2008, and head of indirect partners, which he held from 2005.

Prior to joining O2, Plumb worked in a variety of director roles at Cable and Wireless for eleven years.

In his new role, he will be charged with establishing and increasing sales of new digital products and services. He will also continue to be a non-executive director of O2-based MVNO Tesco Mobile.

O2 CEO Ronan Dunne said: “David joins the UK Board at an incredibly exciting time. 2013 is going to be the year we truly transform Telefonica to become a digital telco, and the UK market is very much the blueprint to delivering on this vision.

“David’s experience and energy will play a crucial role in helping to accelerate our speed to market to bring our innovative new digital services to our UK customers. I’m delighted to have him on board.”

Plumb added: “Just as digital needs to be at the heart of the UK’s recovery, economy, export led growth, delivery of public services and future, it must also be at the heart of our UK business if we are to become the most trusted provider of digital services for our customers.

“O2 has always been at the forefront of innovation and now we have the opportunity to take that a step further and make the UK one of the most digital markets in Telefonica. This is the challenge and I am looking forward to stepping up to it.”

Plumb replaces Martin Harriman who now heads up the Connected Homes programme in Telefonica Digital. His role as general manager of Enterprise has been taken by former MD of O2 Unify Paul Osborne.
