Device, which Sony claims is the world’s slimmest Android tablet, to be available in the UK through the likes of Carphone Warehouse and O2 before the end of the month
The Sony Xperia Tablet Z, which the manufacturer claims is the world’s slimmest and lightest premium Android tablet, has now gone on sale globally.
The tablet can be pre-ordered in the UK from the likes of Carphone Warehouse and O2 for £499.99, with an expected launch date before the end of the month. It will come in black and white and in 4G or Wi-Fi versions.
The Xperia Tablet Z, which is water and dust resistant, is powered by a 1.5GHz processor and has a 10.1-inch screen with Sony’s Mobile Bravia Engine 2 technology to enhance display quality.
It has an eight megapixel rear camera featuring Sony’s Exmor R for mobile sensor and two megapixel front camera. There are two built-in speakers with Sony’s S-Force Front Surround Sound 3D technology for improved audio.
The device also includes one-touch technology to enable users to transfer content seamlessly from tablet to TV, tablet to speaker or phone to tablet by touching them together.
A number of accessories have also launched with the Xperia Tablet Z, including a charging cradle, LCD screen protector and carrying cover that comes in black, white or red.
Sony Mobile Communications senior vice president, head of UX creative design and planning Tomakazu Tajima said: ”Xperia Tablet Z has received an incredibly positive response since it was announced and this is demonstrated by the strong pre-orders the product has received.
“We believe we have created the ultimate tablet experience and one that is uniquely Sony. Who else would design a tablet that can be used as a media center, a TV remote control – as well as sync seamlessly with Xperia Z and be submerged for 30 minutes underwater?”
