Uptake of its O2 Travel package has boosted data usage abroad according to the operator
Roaming data usage in Europe on the O2 network has increased by 200 per cent in the last year.
Since the launch of its O2 Travel package – which offers a day’s worth of data in 29 countries around Europe for £1.99 – customer usage has boomed according to the network.
In a survey of 2,000 UK adults commissioned by the operator it found 35 per cent of UK holidaymakers kept in touch with friends and family through Facebook and 29 per cent used email. More traditional methods of communication with phones remained popular with 60 per cent using text to stay in touch while abroad and 39 per cent making calls.
O2 consumer general manager Phil Maple said: “We’ve worked with our network partners across Europe to make it more affordable for our customers to access maps, guide books, reviews and to stay in touch with those back home. It seems that travellers are embracing the digital possibilities on offer as a result.”
