‘World’s thinnest smartphone’ to go on sale in the UK before the end of next month, available from £25 a month on contract
Huawei has unveiled its flagship device for this year – the Ascend P6 smartphone.
It will go on sale in 19 countries before the end of next month, including the UK, priced from £25 a month on contract and €449 (£385) SIM-free. It will then be available in over 100 countries in August, and will come in black, white and pink.
The Ascend P6, which has a metal body, is powered by a 1.5GHz quad-core processor and runs the Android 4.2.2 operating system. It is 6.18mm thick, which Huawei says makes it the world’s thinnest smartphone.
It has a 4.7-inch HD touchscreen, eight megapixel rear camera, 4cm macro view, HD video recording and playback, and a five megapixel front camera with facial-enhancing capabilities.
The Ascend P6 also features the latest update to the manufacturer’s Emotion UI, which also includes the Me Widget to give users access to their favourite apps from the home screen. New additions to the UI include panoramic shoot and facial recognition photography functions.
It also includes Huawei’s Automated Discontinuous Reception and Quick Power Control battery optimisation and power saving technology, which the manufacturer said improves device performance by more than 30 per cent compared with smartphone batteries of an equal size.
