Virgin Media picks up almost 50,000 contract customers in Q2


First results since acquisition by Liberty Global show positive gains in subscription services

Virgin Media has reported a 49,000 boost in its contract mobile subscribers in Q2 – adding more than 151,000 in the past year.

The increase takes the MVNO’s overall mobile customer base back to the three million mark.

Virgin Media also reported that nearly one-and-a-half million more homes are now receiving superfast broadband with speeds of over 30Mbps than 12 months ago.

Due to the acquisition of Virgin Media by Liberty Global, there are no comparable financial metrics.

Virgin Media CEO Tom Mockridge said: “This combination of extra customers and an increase in the average they’re spending with us over the year continues to drive our revenue and performance.

“In what is a competitive market, there’s clearly emerging recognition of the benefits of faster broadband and advanced television. As part of the world’s largest international cable company, we are well positioned to take advantage of these opportunities and meet the growing demand for digital.”
