ZTE to sell first Firefox device to UK through eBay store


ZTE Open to be available to UK market “soon” for £59.99 following launch in Spain last month

ZTE is preparing to offer its latest handset running the new Firefox operating system to consumers in the UK and US through its official eBay store.

Following the launch of the ZTE Open in Spain, Venezuela and Columbia, the Chinese manufacturer said today (August 12) that the handset will be available “soon” for $79.99 (£59.99) and will be unlocked and ready to use on all networks.

Features on the ZTE Open include a 3.5 inch display with a resolution of 480 x 320 pixels, a 3.2 megapixel camera, 256MB of RAM and 512MB of built in storage,which can be expanded via a microSD card slot.

ZTE Corporation vice president Dai Wenhong said: “It is great honour to launch the ZTE Open Firefox OS phone worldwide through eBay. The ZTE Open offers customers a smartphone experience at an incredible price point, making it ideal for cost conscious consumers or those looking to upgrade to a smartphone for the first time.”

Mozilla senior vice president of mobile devices Li Gong added: “With a great potential user base, we know that even more developers around the world will create their apps with new APIs to stimulate an inspiring new wave of innovation.”
