Kazam bolsters staff as smartphone launch nears


Former Brightpoint, Data Select, Nokia, Google and Carphone Warehouse staff among new appointments

New smartphone brand Kazam has appointed nine new staff – taking its numbers to 30, as it nears the launch of its first devices.

The firm, which was formed in June by former HTC execs James Atkins and Michael Coombes, will release a range of devices in the UK and across Europe in the next couple of weeks.

New staff, include former Brightpoint VP of Eastern Europe Frank Jensen who becomes its chief operating officer.

Jenson, who will be based in Denmark, is responsible for sales and marketing across the Nordics. He will be supported by sales team staff Thomas Faber and Clause Pederson.

Former Lebara Mobile head of sales Rakesh Odedra has also joined the firm as a London based sales director.

Odedra has more than ten years experience in the mobile industry having held various roles at Carphone Warehouse, such as area and national sales manager, head of retail accessories at Data Select, and account manager for Nokia’s distribution.

Former Google technician Daniel Boff, who has also held testing positions at Panasonic and Sharp, has been appointed head of products and will also be based in the UK.

Their appointments takes the number of UK staff to five in total.

Kazam CMO James Atkins added: “As we get closer to the launch of our first range of phones we continue to refine and improve our processes and services in order to deliver a really credible offering. We want to disrupt the current status quo by delivering quality phones at accessible prices underpinned by excellent customer service and having a local and lean structure.”

In addition, former Toshiba head of customer services Stefan Schietaert has been appointed as European customer care and service director. Schietaert has also held customer service positions at Motorola and Ericsson.

Other appointments to help drive sales and marketing in specific areas include Javier Martinez Esparza in Spain, Yves-Raphael Loerke in the DACH region (Germany, Austraia and Switzerland) and Wojciech Wasilewski in Poland.
