Galaxy Tab 3 Kids to come pre-loaded with educational tools and parental control features

Samsung is releasing the Galaxy Tab 3 Kids, a tablet aimed at children with educational tools and the ability for parents to control when their child can use the device.

It will go on sale in Samsung’s home market of Korea in early September and will be subsequently available across China, Europe, US, South America and South East Asia. UK availability will be announced in due course.

The Galaxy Tab 3 Kids is powered by a 1.2GHz processor and runs the Android 4.1 operating system. It has a seven inch screen, three megapixel rear camera, 1.3-megapixel front camera and 8GB of internal memory that can be expanded by 32GB with a microSD card.

It will come pre-loaded with educational, gaming, entertainment and e-book applications and with the Application Manager, parents can select the apps they want their children to have access to.

The Time Management feature allows parents to set specific time period for use. When the designated time is reached, a password protected lock screen will appear, requiring a parent to enter a password and unlock the device.

A Kids Case featuring a child-friendly grip and a number of stand options available for the device. The case will also come equipped with a C Pen, enabling children to draw on the screen without leaving marks on other objects.

Samsung CEO and head of IT and mobile communications JK Shin said: “It’s no secret that kids are using technology more than ever before. We saw an opportunity to create a device just for kids that provides them with an intuitive, fun and kid-friendly user experience filled with rich, interactive and educational content that parents will love.”
