T-Mobile US to scrap data and text roaming charges

Later this month T-Mobile customers will be able to surf the web and text for no extra cost in over 100 countries outside of the US

T-Mobile US has announced it will scrap data and text roaming charges in over 100 countries later this month.

The operator’s ‘Simple Choice Plan’ currently offers either 500MG, 2.5GB or unlimited data for $50, $60 or $70 respectively while in the US.

This deal will be extended to cover over 100 countries on October 20 for new customers and October 31 for existing customers, although calls will cost 20 cents per minute.

T-Mobile CEO John Legere said that although in general roaming fees have proved very profitable for the mobile industry, his company hasn’t benefitted much because it does not have many business customers who travel.

Leagre said the company made the move to gain new subscribers by sacrificing minimum revenue.
