O2 launches Speed to Refresh incentive

Customers can now move to the Refresh tariff mid-contract, with the operator giving a 25 per cent discount off their remaining line rental

O2 has launched Speed to Refresh, enabling current contract customers to move to its tariff.

The operator said it will give it 25 per cent off a customer’s remaining line rental so they can gain a fast track upgrade to Refresh.

O2 launched Refresh in its stores in April and on its website three months later. The tariff enables customers to change their device whenever they want without penalty.

Earlier this month O2 said that since its launch, more than one million customers have signed up to the tariff, with more than 100,000 new additions in Q3.

The launch comes as a survey by OnePoll for O2 of 2,000 UK adults found the novelty of a new phone wears off in just four months, with a quarter becoming bored within one month. A third said they always want the latest handsets and gadgets, with 60 per cent admitting they would change their phone even if their current device worked perfectly well.

O2 UK general manager for devices David Johnson said: “With technology advancing by the day it is perhaps little surprise that the initial euphoria of owning a new device wears off faster than ever.   However, it is interesting to see that technology is now giving the fashion world a run for its money – with the nation waiting on the new season must-haves.

“That’s why we’ve created Speed to Refresh – it’s now even easier and more affordable for phone lovers to have the latest kit, especially with O2 Recycle for their old phone.”
