For the first time since 2009, Samsung tops comparison site comparemymobile.com’s list of most recycled brands instead of Apple
Samsung has overtaken Apple as the most recycled brand for the first time since 2009.
This is according to recycling comparison site comparemymobile.com, which partners with major recyclers such as Mobile Phone Xchange, Mazuma Mobile, and Envirofone (now owned by Redeem).
Apple market share is currently 31.6 per cent, down from almost 50 per cent during 2013.
Samsung’s market share has risen from 18.5 per cent in 2013 to 34.1 per cent.
The Samsung Galaxy S3 is the top-traded in mobile so far this year. Making up 10.6 per cent compared with the iPhone 4s 16GB (8.5 per cent) and iPhone 4 16GB (6.4 per cent).
The average payout for a recycled handset has risen slightly year-on-year, from £114 in 2012 to £123.55 in 2013.
Apple’s devices are still the most valuable – with the iPhone 5s achieving the highest trade-in value of £434.79.
Samsung’s Galaxy S4 and BlackBerry’s Z10 both feature on comparemymobile’s list of top ten devices which lost the most value in 2013, despite being released last year.
