Sony releases Z2 smartphone at MWC


Z2 tablet and mod-range M2 smartphone also revealed

Sony has launched the Xperia Z2 Android phone which offers 4K video capture and a host of enhanced features.

The waterproof phone remains closely targeted at multimedia users with the Z1-like 20.7MP camera being joined by new ways of capturing video including a super slow motion feature, as well as a full HD Triluminos Display.

Sony also claims the device has the world’s first digital noise cancelling technology for a smartphone cancelling 98 per cent of ambient noise.

The manufacturer has utilised Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 801 processor with a 2.3 GHz quad- core, it comes 4G LTE ready and has a larger, 3200 mAh to cope with the additional functionality.

The phone will be available to pre-order from next month and will ship to customers in mid-April. O2 has the exclusive contract to supply the phone in purple. EE, Vodafone and Phones 4u have also announced they will supply the phone.

The Z2 tablet with many of the same features as the phone will also launch at the same time.

Sony has also launched into the competitive mid-range market with the Xperia M2 which it claims is the slimmest 4G device.

No pricing details have been released for any of the products.
