Five-year deal for 4G expansion and upgrade to 2G and 3G networks
Ericsson has landed a five year deal to expand Vodafone’s 4G network as part of the operator’s Project Spring investment programme.
The contract also includes an upgrade to Vodafone’s 2G and 3G networks and builds on the existing relationship between the two companies.
Vodafone has earmarked £7 billion for the Project Spring network upgrade that the company claims will create the world’s largest 4G roaming network.
The operator currently offers 4G roaming on its own networks in Greece, Italy, Portugal, Romania and Spain. By this summer, it will launch 4G roaming in Australia, Germany, the Netherlands, New Zealand, South Africa and the UK.
“We have been a trusted partner of Vodafone for 30 years and we are delighted to continue and expand our relationship with this latest award under Project Spring,” said Hans Vestberg President and chief executive officer Ericsson.
Vodafone anticipates the investment programme will be completed by March 2016.
