Part of a range of updates announced by software company
Microsoft will offer OneDrive for Business as a standalone service, the software company has announced .
The cloud computing solution, formerly known as SkyDrive Pro, was previously only available as part of an Office 365 for business plan, but customers will now be able to purchase it separately from April 1.
The new pricing structure will allow firms to purchase a minimum of 25GB of storage per employee allowing them to edit documents collaboratively in real-time using Office tools, via a web browser.
Additional services such as offline sync and the ability to access from multiple devices on other platforms can be bolted on at a later date.
Microsoft has also released a simplified user interface it claims will allow users to manage and control files in a simpler fashion. The latest update will also make it easier to connect OneDrive to its Sharepoint2013 web platform.
