Huawei unveils YouView set-top box

Exertis Micro-P appointed exclusive distributor for hardware

Huawei has announced its YouView set-top box is now available from a number of retailers including Maplins and Amazon.

The YouView + DN371T box which offers 500GB of storage (300 hours of standard definition and 125 hours of HD recording) will be distributed exclusively in the UK by Exertis Micro-P.

YouView – a partnership between the BBC, ITV, Channel 4, BT and other service providers – gives customers access to on demand services such as iPlayer, 4OD and paid for premium content.

Huawei has been a strategic partner of YouView since 2010 and provided TalkTalk’s hardware since the service’s 2012 launch.

“We are thrilled to be launching our own set-top box, which includes cutting-edge innovations to personal video recording technology and will play a key role in bringing YouView to the widest possible audience by offering a completely subscription free option for consumers,” said Mark Mitchinson Executive Vice President Huawei UK and Ireland (pictured).

The BBC Trust has urged the corporation to review its investment in the platform due to BT and TalkTalk offering premium content as bolt-ons to other services. It’s worried that it may mean the BBC is failing to provide its programmes for free at the point of delivery.

The box is priced at £219.
