Fifth generation in manufacturer’s premium line of smartphones to go on sale at all major UK retailers and operators from April 11
The Samsung Galaxy S5 will be available to pre-order in the UK on March 28 from selected retailers, including Carphone Warehouse, Samsung’s e-store and the Stratford Westfield Experience Store. The manufacturer was unable to provide more details on who the “selected retailers” are and how much the device will cost.
It will be available through Samsung’s retail channels, e-commerce and carriers on April 11. All major UK mobile retailers and operators have confirmed they will stock the device from launch.
The device was launched in front of thousands of people at its Unpacked 5′ event in Barcelona on February 24, which was the opening evening of this year’s Mobile World Congress.
The Galaxy S5 is powered by a 2.5GHz processor and will ship with the Android 4.4.2 KitKat OS. It has a 5.1-inch HD screen, 16megapixel rear camera, two megapixel front camera and HD video playback and recording capability.
It is IP67 dust and water resistant. This means it is ‘dust tight’ and can be immersed in up to one metre of water for up to 30 minutes. It has 2GB of RAM and 16GB or 32GB of internal memory that can be expanded by 128GB with a microSD card. Also included is a personal fitness tracker, pedometer, diet and exercise records and heart rate monitor.
Samsung UK and Ireland VP of IT and Mobile division Simon Stanford said: “We wanted to give our customers in the UK the chance to get their hands on the next generation of our Galaxy S smartphone as soon as possible by giving them the option to pre-order.”
