He joins the Vodafone Platinum Partner to ensure its expansion and push into unified comms continues
OneCom has appointed Vodafone and Three veteran Richard Schafer into the newly created role of chief financial officer.
The Fareham-based B2B dealer said his brief is to ensure the firm is well-placed to capitalise on its recent expansion and continue its push into unified communications.
Schafer joins from Viacloud, where he has held the same role for the past year. He has 14 years top level financial experience in the mobile sector, particularly in the network operator space.
Prior to joining Viacloud, he spent five-and-a-half years at Vodafone where he was first head of commercial finance and then enterprise finance director.
He also spent seven years at Three, and held positions including head of finance for networks and head of corporate finance for just under two years.
Schafer’s appointment is the latest to be made by OneCom, which now manages 200,000 mobile connections and has offices in Camberley, Brighton, Plymouth, Leeds, Telford, Southampton, Norwich and Edinburgh.
Former Hampshire Trust Bank director Stephen Hunter joined in January, tasked with reviewing OneCom’s structures and processes as the company seeks expansion.
“The landscape in mobile is changing and we’re now seeing the predicted shift to unified communications and the growth of converged fixed line and mobile services starting to happen in earnest,” said Schafer. “OneCom is well-placed to capitalise on that change.”
OneCom chief executive Darren Ridge added: “We are taking the right steps to ensure we have a strong management structure in place to provide us with a solid foundation for the future. Unified communications are the future of the mobile industry and we intend to be at the forefront of this change.
