It will be the manufacturer’s first smartwatch in collaboration with Google and its third wearable technology product
LG will launch its G Watch smartwatch in Q2, although sale of it in the UK has not been confirmed.
The manufacturer has yet to reveal hardware specifications but said it will be powered by Android Wear and be compatible with a wide range of Android smartphones. It will also include the ‘OK Google’ voice recognition service.
The G Watch will be LG’s third wearable technology product, following the 3G Touch Watch Phone in 2009 and Prada Link in 2008.
It will also be its fourth device developed in collaboration with Google following the Nexus 4 and Nexus 5 smartphones, as well as the G Pad 8.3 tablet Google Play Edition.
The G Watch will be the latest smartwatch to enter the mobile market, joining the likes of the Samsung Gear 2 and Gear 2 Neo (announced at Mobile World Congress last month), Galaxy Gear and Sony SmartWatch 2.
LG Electronics Mobile Communications president and CEO Dr. Jong-seok Park said: “We’re confident that a well-designed device has the potential to take the smart wearable market by storm.”
