Former chief executive of the London Stock Exchange and Credit Lyonnais Rouse to join Group on September 1

Vodafone Group has appointed Dame Clara Furse DBE as a non-executive director and a member of the Audit and Risk Commitee, with effect from September 1.

Furse was chief executive of the London Stock Exchange from 2001 to 2009 and was previously group chief executive of French bank Credit Lyonnais Rouse and managing director, global futures and options at bank UBS AG.

She is also a non-executive director on the board of Japanese financial firm Nomura Holdings and global travel and tourism transaction processor Amadeus Holdings.

Her previous non-executive career includes board appointments at insurance firm Legal & Genera Group (2009 to 2013), Belgian financial services company Euroclear (2002 to 2009), Belgian bank Fortis (2006 to 2008) and financial and commodity firm LIFFE Holdings (1991 to 1999).

Furse was also appointed to the financial policy committee of the Bank of England last year.

Her appointment follows that of Sir Crispin Davis earlier this month, who was also appointed as a non-executive director with effect from July 28.

Vodafone Group chairman Gerard Kleisterlee said: “Dame Clara has a deep understanding of international capital markets, services industries and business transformation. Her skills and experience will be highly complimentary to our Board.”
