Microsoft Devices has appointed Jon French as vice president for the Middle East region.

This is according to Middle East business news website, which said he will be responsible for the overall strategic development of its business operations in the location.

Prior to that, he spent four-and-a-half years at HTC, where he held the roles of UK and Ireland executive director, VP for sales and operations in EMEA and VP for the Middle East and Africa.

French began his career in mobile in the late 1990s in a sales management role at Nokia UK before joining Samsung Electronics in 2003 where he was its general manager in the UK for six years.

Microsoft Devices Group for India, Middle East and Africa Arto Nummela said: With his extensive international business and sales management experience gained in various roles in Nokia and other major multinational companies, Jon is an excellent choice to further lead the regional growth of the company’s mobile devices division including the Lumia, Nokia Asha and Nokia X business.”

French added: “It’s a great opportunity to join the division as the Vice President and to be part of driving the brand to even greater heights across the region.”
