Samsung Galaxy S5 mini to hit UK stores on August 7

Compact version of flagship smartphone to be available from retailers including Carphone Warehouse, with Galaxy Young 2 on sale the following week

The Samsung Galaxy S5 mini will go on sale in the UK from August 7. It will be available from selected high street and online retailers, including Carphone Warehouse and Samsung Experience Stores.

The compact version of the manufacturer’s flagship Galaxy S5 is powered by a quad-core 1.4GHz processor and runs the Android 4.4 KitKat operating system.

It has a 4.5-inch Super AMOLED HD touchscreen, eight megapixel rear camera with LED flash, 2.1-megapixel front camera, 1.5GB of RAM and 16GB of internal memory that can be expanded by 64GB with a microSD card.

Like the Galaxy S5, it features a fingerprint sensor to unlock the screen and ‘Ultra Power Saving’ mode. This switches the screen from colour to black and white, and turns off all non-essential services on the phone. The Galaxy S5 mini is also IP67 certified, meaning it is water resistant in up to one metre of water for 30 minutes, as well as being dust resistant.

The entry-level Samsung Galaxy Young 2 smartphone will go on sale in the UK the following week, powered by a single-core 1GHz processor and running the Android 4.4 KitKat OS.

It has a 3.5-inch touchscreen, three megapixel camera, video playback in HD, 512MB of RAM and 4GB of internal memory that can be expanded by 32GB with a microSD card. It will be available in white and ‘iris charcoal’.
