iPhone 6 launch sees Apple return to UK marketshare growth according to Kantar Worldpanel ComTech
The launch of the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus saw Apple’s quarterly market share return to growth in the three months ending September 30.
Apple’s market share grew by 2.4 per cent over the quarter, according to the latest OS data from Kantar Worldpanel ComTech. This was also up year-on-year by 1.7 per cent. This was against a backdrop of Apple’s share falling by 1.6 per cent for the three months ending August 31, as consumers waited for the handsets to go on sale on September 19.
The research firm also said that 87 per cent of initial iPHone sale acorss European markets were by existing iPhone owners.
“Our latest data covers the first few days of the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus being available in Europe and it is clear that demand has been high for the eagerly awaited new models,” said strategic insight director Dominic Sunnebo.
Android’s GB market share fell from 61.1 per cent for the three months ending August 31, to 59.5 per cent for the quarter ending September 30th. Windows Phone’s share fell below the ten per cent marketshare threshold over the same period from 10.3 per cent to 9.6 per cent.
