Manufacturer secures its first high street retail deal for its second smartphone, joining online retailers such as Amazon, Buymobiles.net and Clove
The Doro Liberto 820 smartphone has now gone on sale at Carphone Warehouse stores nationwide and online.
Carphone has become the first high street retailer to stock the device, joining online counterparts including Amazon, Buymobiles.net and Clove Technology.
It is available for free on contract at Carphone for £13 per month, coming with 100 minutes, 5,000 texts and 250MB of data on Talkmobile.
The key selling point of the Liberto 820, which is the follow-up to last year’s Liberto 810, is ‘My Doro Manager’ – a suite of remote device management tools geared towards delivering an easier set up and configuration, and ongoing management of the device.
My Doro Manager consists of two elements: a tutorial application within the device and a third-party ‘helper’ app. Helpers are designated family members or friends who can offer remote assistance from other iOS and Android devices to the user once invited, configuring settings such as volume level and screen brightness.
Nominated helpers are also able to recommend certain apps to the user and offer support in learning how to use them. The device’s status and usage patterns can also be used to determine if the user needs more support with certain tasks.
Additionally, the Liberto 820 is powered by a quad-core 1.3GHz processor and runs the Android 4.4 KitKat OS. It has a 4.5-inch touchscreen, eight megapixel camera, 1GB of RAM, 8GB of internal memory that can be expanded to 32GB with a microSD card, as well as extra loud ringtones, HD voice and hearing aid compatibility.
The release of the phone has been supported by Doro’s biggest ever advertising campaign since entering the UK and Ireland market almost 10 years ago. It declined to reveal how much is being spent.
A 30 second TV advert, which debuted on November 10, is running across a number of channels including ITV1, ITV3, Channel 4, Channel 5, Yesterday and Alibi until December 24.
Doro UK and Ireland managing director Chris Millington said: “We are so proud of this device and believe it will generate real traction in store with those who are looking for a smartphone that is easy-to-use and supportive as they enter the smart world. The built-in coach and My Doro Manager add so much value to this user group and help to make smartphones easier than ever before.”
