Apple has sold more than 700m iPhones

CEO Tim Cook reveals figure at Apple Watch event in San Francisco & launches new health platform

Apple has now sold more than 700 million iPhones since the first version of the smartphone went on sale in 2007.

Speaking at the Apple Watch launch event in San Francisco, Apple CEO Tim Cook said that the iPhone had became the best smelling smartphone in the world during the final quarter of 2014.

Cook explained that Apple would now use this number of smartphones to focus on health, with the creation of Apple ResearchKit, part of HealthKit.

ResearchKit will allow iPhone users to perform some basic health checks, such as tests for Parkinson’s disease, and contribute the data to medical professionals to use for research. It is due to launch in the US next month and will come with five in-built apps.
