Record pre-orders for new devices launched at MWC last week, according to reports from Korea
Samsung has received record pre-orders on the Samsung Galaxy S6 and S6 edge which it launched at MWC last week, according to reports from Korea.
Quoting an figures from an unnamed executive, the Korea Times said that Samsung has received 20 million pre-orders for its new flagship devices – a company record.
“Samsung received some 20 million preorders for the S6 and S6 Edge — 15 million of S6 and five million of the S6 Edge from mobile carriers, worldwide. This is the record,” the unidentified “top executive” reportedly said.
These figures are from mobile operators and may not translate to sales, although Samsung head of mobile Shin Jong-kyun reportedly said that orders had been “really huge”.
Samsung has seen a startling decline in mobile sales over the last year, with its share of global sales slipping from 29 per cent in the final quarter of 2013 to 19.9 per cent in Q4 2014 (Gartner).
Apple overtook it during Q4, with a 20.4 per cent share, selling 74.8 million iPhones. Apple claimed it had sold four million iPhone 6 and 6 Plus devices within 24 hours of launch in September.
The Samsung Galaxy S6 and S6 edge go on sale in the UK on April 10 and will be stocked by all UK operators.
