Samsung to cut distribution partners as part of review

Manufacturer’s six distributors invited to tender as it looks to streamline its channel programme to form deeper relationships

Samsung is to cut UK distributors as part of a newly opened review to streamline the channel programme and form deeper relationships with partners.

Existing distributors Ingram Micro, Exertis, Data Select, Tech Data Mobile, West Coast and Brightstar have been invited to tender, with the outcome to be announced in June.

The review of its IT and mobile (IM) business is being led by recently appointed UK and Ireland mobile and IT vice president Conor Pierce (pictured) to refocus and realign the mobile and tablet business.

Samsung said the objective is to streamline the channel programme, reducing the number of distributors and therefore allowing it to develop deeper relationships with partners that share its long-term strategy.

“These distribution tenders are just some of the changes we are implementing throughout Samsung’s IM business,” said Pierce.

“We have some great distribution partners working with us, but now is the time to refocus our energies on creating a strong future for the IM brand. Once the tender is completed, we will have the right distribution landscape in place that will help us deliver against our ambitious business goals in 2015 and in the future.”
