New UK and Ireland VP Conor Pierce has reduced number of UK accessory distributors from six to four
Samsung has cut its number of UK accessory distributors from six to four following a four month review – but not without confusion.
The manufacturer told Mobile News last week Brightstar, Exertis, Kondor and Ingram Micro Mobility have all been retained by the manufacturer following the tender process.
However, as Mobile News went to press, a number of partners were unaware of the outcome, claiming no official decision had been communicated by the Korean manufacturer.
The two distributors understood to have had their agreements terminated are Tech Data and Genuine Solutions. But whilst Tech Data Mobile MD Peter Hubbard confirmed Tech Data no longer has a direct deal with Samsung, Genuine Solutions, who was signed up in 2013, insisted its deal remained.
Samsung refused to reveal or confirm the names or clarify the situation on advice from its legal team.
Samsung UK and Ireland vice president Conor Pierce, who began the accessory review immediately after joining in February, has also now began a tender proccess for handsets distribution – with an aim of cutting partners.
Samsung partners currently include Brightstar, Exertis, Data Select, Ingram Micro Mobility, Tech Data and West Coast. Pierce told Mobile News adopting a less is more approach will benefit the company.
“We need a more narrowly focused distribution strategy and find ways in which we can engage with the market and build stronger partnerships,” said Pierce. “Our partners are aware of the situation and we are going through the process internally of identifying the right ones to work with.”
