Popular holiday destinations such as Spain and Greece see 10p per minute knocked off calls back to UK
Sainsbury’s MVNO has cut roaming rates in more than 30 countries including popular holiday destinations such as Spain and Greece.
Mobile by Sainsbury’s customers on pre-paid and sim-only deals will now pay the same rate for calls as they would for out of bundle charges in the UK.
Customers using a SIM from the MVNO, which runs on Vodafone’s network, will be charged 8p per minute for calls and 4p per text back to the UK, down from 18p per minute and 5p per text.
Data in the 30 countries will cost 5p per MB, down from 19p, as part of the new rates which will run from May 6 until September 30.
Sainsbury’s has also made it free for customers to receive calls while roaming in the selected countries, a saving of 4p per minute.
Mobile by Sainsbury’s MD Richard Crampton said: “Customers can get a nasty surprise when they use their phones abroad. Expensive rates and the shock of the resulting bill can be a big source of customer dissatisfaction, especially over the peak holiday months.
“We have addressed this for our customers, making phoning from abroad much more affordable and the costs transparent. With the launch of these fantastic roaming rates, we’ve made it cheaper for our customers to call within these European countries than it is for some of our competitors’ customers to make calls within the UK.”
Sainsbury’s said it gives it comparable rates with the main operators, while the the full list of countries is available at mobilebysainsburys.co.uk/summer2015.
