Operator unveils connected camera as part of new connected strategy at media event in London

EE will sell its own range of action cameras with built in 4G connectivity, it announced at a media event in London today (June 9).

The 4GEE Action Cam is set to go on sale on June 16 and will allow users to broadcast live HD video content to smartphones and tablets.

The operator said it was the world’s first 4G action camera, and the first in a range of connected devices it plans to launch this year.

The device is capable of capturing both full HD video (1080p) and 13MP stills, while users can also reduce the definition to capture 60 frames per seconds footage. 4GEE Action Cam & Accessories

The camera comes with a fully waterproof case that will protect it up to 60 metres, while the operator said that the 2260mAh battery can last up to three hours.

The camera has been built in partnership with Taiwanese manufacturer Qisda, who was also involved in making EE’s own-branded Harrier and Harrier Mini devices.

It weighs 128g and comes with 4GB of internal storage, plus space for a microSD card up to 64GB.

“Connected strategy”

EE CEO Olaf Swantee said: “Over the past two years we’ve witnessed how 4G connectivity has changed behaviour and instilled a desire to connect and communicate instantaneously when out and about.

“We’ve introduced our ‘connected strategy’ as we understand our customers not only want superfast coverage, they want products that give them the very best experiences, coupled with the most innovative and exciting ways in which to share them.

“The 4GEE Action Cam is a great example of this, a product that keeps us connected in a new way, even in the most extreme conditions, sharing those epic moments as they unfold. It’s the first of several highly innovative products from our devices portfolio to be unveiled this year for work and for play, offering a video experience like no other currently available on the market.”
