Continuous 4G indoor system will be tested in Vodafone’s UK office in Waterloo, London

Vodafone UK has struck a deal with Ericsson to trial the Swedish manufacturer’s new 4G Radio Dot indoor solution at its London office.

The operator said it is the first UK provider to trial the Radio Dot system, which uses smoke alarm sized cells to boost coverage indoors, and it will be tested in its office in Waterloo.

The system provides 4G connectivity indoors with less wiring than traditional small cell solutions, making it suitable for office buildings or shopping centres.

Vodafone UK Chief Technology Officer Jorge Fernandes said: “With 70 per cent of customers using their mobile device mostly indoors, we want to eradicate the frustration of losing a conference call or video streaming session when moving throughout a business park or leaving a music venue.

“Through our work with the world’s leading equipment and network experts such as Ericsson, we are taking a big step towards achieving that goal through this trial, the first of its kind in the UK.”
